Radio Shack – What Were You Thinking?

Never announce a reduction in staff two months before it is to be implemented. Never, unless you are closing a plant or other facility where you are required to announce it three months or so in advance.

Radio Shack annouced they planned to eliminate 450 jobs in September. Now imagine you worked at the corporate headquarters. Imagine how you would feel with the uncertainty. What would you do? Many will hit the job boards. Imagine the politics in play. Could Radio Shack lose people who they do not want to lose? Not only could they, they will! Imagine the morale.

Read Marc Quarles Message to Me About Yahoo Contextual Advertising

Dear Steve,

My latest blog post “Kicking Google to the Curb” is ready for you at http://marcquarles.com

You know, I’ve been watching Google slowly but surely alienate the “little guy” in favor of their huge Adsense publishers (like About.com). It seems to me that they used us little Adsense publishers to get extremely popular, but now they seem to be trying to find every little way possible to get rid of us…

So, I’ve finally decided to brave the YPN application process (which I hear from my marketing buddies is not very fun) and you know what? I was approved within a week… I had been expecting to be ignored for a month or two, based on what I’ve been reading from other people.

It’s possible that YPN is nearing the end of their beta process, and are therefore working on getting more publishers on board, so if you haven’t bothered applying so far because of the horror stories out there, now might be the time to try.

Respectfully,
Marc Quarles
