The main thing you need to consider when doing internet marketing is whether you are going to be the product vendor (with your own unique product and customers), or a simple affiliate (where you don’t have your own product and instead just send traffic to other people’s products and get a cut of the sale). There are advantages for both sides. As an affiliate, you don’t have to worry about customer support and product creation, and there is just a lot less stress and responsibility. However, as a product owner, you get the full money per sale (assuming you make the sale yourself), and you get to enjoy a whole army of affiliates promoting YOUR product. The main traffic source for many product owners is in fact affiliates. If you manage to have a whole bunch of affiliates, then they will do everything for you, and you won’t ever have to worry about getting traffic again. To get lots of affiliates, try to offer a high commission, a high price point, and a good quality product.
Although the reality is that most people make very little, you can in fact earn an income online if you put more into it than most people and actually stay dedicated. Just try to stick to one thing and don’t jump on the bandwagon everytime some new “secret method” comes out. Ultimately, you need to find out what works for you, and listen to your own results. Still pay attention if someone recommends doing something – but your own results should count for more than anything else. And remember that hard work alone will not make you successful – you also need to be working on the right things.
