Notice Examples Of Wasted Advertising Dollars Then Don’t Do That

An insert in the Tampa Bay Business Journal was a multicolored (at least 6 colors – can you say expensive) 6 flap brochure promoting something. If the company’s goal was to attract attention by making it difficult to figure out who they were and their offer they succeeded with me.

I pay attention to promotions. Most of them are not very good. Many are stupid. This particular piece was done by a company who is promoting image advertising to the business market and it appears their target audiance is larger businesses. I looked at it closely because for awhile I couldn’t figure out who they were, what they wanted me do and what was in it for me. I like looking at material that gets the job done and is not effective. I learn from both.

Did their target audiance pay any attention to the promotion? I have no idea. But I do know this, given the amount of money needed to design and produce this insert, if it were me I would have an attention grabber right up front as to the benefit of using this firm’s services. Then I would have designed a mechanism to test the response to this promotion. Those are principles for most companies to follow – always.
